Funding

The Ryan Hudak LGBTQ+ Dramatic Writing Award

  • A cash grant from NYFA for one New York State–based playwright, screenwriter, or adjacent writer

  • Applicants should identify as LGBT+

  • $8,000 award

  • Deadline: June 16th

Fred Ebb Award

  • Annual award for a musical theatre composer/lyricist (or team) who has not achieved significant commercial success

  • $75,000 award

  • Deadline: June 30th

The Dottie Burman and John Wallowitch Awards

  • Award for a cabaret song written by a composer/lyricist who is 40+ (Burman) or -40 (Wallowitch)

  • $5,000 award

  • Deadline: Upcoming, likely early July

Development

Dramatist Guild Foundation Fellows

  • One-year intensive NYC fellowship for emerging musical theatre dramatists

  • Fellows develop existing musical projects under distinguished mentors, culminating in showcases; the program includes masterclasses and networking

  • $5,000 stipend

  • Deadline: July 30th or after 225 applications are received (hop to it!)

New Works, New Voices

  • Development program pairing underrepresented musical theatre writers with Syracuse University students to workshop a new musical

  • No stipend mentioned.

  • Deadline: June 30th

Residencies

Headlands Center for the Arts Artist-in-Residence

  • Fully-funded 4-6 week residency in Sausalito, CA, open to artists across disciplines

  • $35 application fee

  • $1,000 stipend

  • Deadline: June 1st

Peter Bullough Foundation Residencies

  • 4-week communal residency in a house from the 1840s, offering private bedrooms and studios

  • Community engagement encouraged

  • $600 stipend

  • Deadline: June 10th

Stove Works Residency

  • Florida residency offering living/studio space to eight selected artists for 1–3 months

  • $20-$30 application fee dependent on timing

  • No residency fee

  • Deadline: June 15th
