Theatre Writer Opportunities for March 2026

Sair here! March is all about quality over quantity - there may be fewer options for awards, residencies, and development opportunities this month, but some of them are worth tens of thousands of dollars. If you’re a playwright, musical theatre writer, or general theatre artists, you won’t want to miss these opportunities.

Funding

The Franklin Furnace Fund

  • A funding opportunity for early-career artists to put up major productions in New York City.

  • Rewards up to $10,000

  • Deadline: April 1st

International Coproduction Fund

  • A grant for artistic international exchange with Germany.

  • Rewards between $15,000 and $30,000

  • Deadline: April 1st

Creative Capital Award

  • Funding for a new original work in various fields including Performing Arts.

  • Rewards between $15,000 and $50,000

  • Deadline: April 2nd

Development

The Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project

  • A week-long intensive at Belmont University for emerging songwriters across genres, featuring mentorship from established writers.

  • Comes with a small stipend for living expenses

  • Deadline: March 20th

The Black List x TRW Collection

  • TRW will publish and license 6 pieces that are posted to BLCKLST.COM

  • Winners earn royalties and licensing fees.

  • Deadline: May 1st

As tax season approaches, don’t forget that 100% of application and residency fees you paid this year are tax deductible. It’s important to keep track of these throughout the year to grow your refund at tax time!

Residencies

Peter Bullough Foundation Residency

  • A month-long residency in downtown Winchester, Virginia focused on art that’s relevant to the LGBT+ community.

  • $20 application fee

  • $600 stipend

  • Deadline: March 4th

Joya Artist in Residence

  • A 1-2 week residency in Spain, focused on art, ecology, and sustainable living.

  • $520 per week residency fee

  • Deadline: March 10th

Vermont Studio Center Residency

  • A residency in rural Vermont offering 2-, 3-, and 4-week stays. Hiking, communal events, and an international community.

  • 1/3rd of applicants pay nothing, others receive a partial fellowship and will pay up to $4,950, depending on length of stay.

  • Deadline Marth 31st
